Advanced Emergency Medical Technician Certificate
Advanced Emergency Medical Technician Certificate
The Advanced Emergency Medical Technician program provides individuals with the knowledge, skills and attributes to provide advanced emergency medical care and transportation of critical or emergent patients as part of a comprehensive response, under medical oversight. The AEMT student learns to bridge the gap between EMT and paramedic by gaining knowledge and skills from lectures, demonstrations, near-to-real life skills evaluations, hospital clinicals and field internships. Graduates who successfully complete the 300-hour program are eligible to sit for state and/or national certification examinations. Students will be evaluated on didactic, clinical and affective components. Employment opportunities include emergency medical service (EMS) providers, fire and rescue agencies, hospital specialty areas, industry, and government agencies. Specific training is provided for patient assessment, cardiac monitoring, advanced airway management, pre-hospital pharmacology and trauma care.
For students entering the field of Emergency Medical Services (EMS), successful completion of this program is required to obtain State and National Registry certification as an AEMT. This program also serves as the foundation of training for individuals seeking to advance to the level of Paramedic. After successful completion, AEMT candidates will:

Advanced EMT Graduate Outcomes:
CAAHEP Accredited Paramedic Programs and CoAEMSP Letter of Review (LoR) Programs track and report outcome measures annually to the Committee on Accreditation for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP). The most current CoAEMSP Annual Report was for the calendar year 2024.
No AEMT data is available for year 2024. Below is the Graduate Outcomes for Paramedic Programs:
- The most recent pass rate for the National Registry of EMT Paramedic/State Cognitive exam was 100%.
- The most recent positive placement rate for graduates was 100%. Positive placement is defined by the CoAEMSP as ‘Employed full or part-time in a related field and/or continuing his/her education and/or serving in the military’. Positive placement is measured at completion of the program.
- The most recent retention rate for 2024 graduates was 84.6%.
